As the assembly works its way in the opposite direction, an inkjet printer head imprints a monochromatic image of the object using radiation absorbent material (RAM). A separate infrared lamp lights the entire build platform with infrared energy. The RAM material, traced to outline the cross section of the object, chemically reacts to the thermal energy, causing the powder to melt. The process is repeated layer by layer until a complete 3D object is formed by HSS prototyping.
